Chapter 9

The week of the wedding came. Nora was avoiding as much social interaction as possible. She saw her clients and went to the courthouse, nothing else. She drove an extra 5 miles to work just to avoid driving by the church. The thought of seeing their names on the sign together or seeing any signs of the actual wedding made her stomach turn.

She came into the office and looked at her schedule. She groaned. The mayor was coming into today. She hated when he came, he never seemed to be able to keep his hands to himself. She spent most of her energy dodging his hands. She sighed, she better get work done before he gets here.

An hour later Shannon let her know the mayor was here. She took a deep breath and told her to let him in. Neil walked in a smiled at her.

“Hey there beautiful.”
“Neil, what can I do for you.”
“Well I am need some legal advice on a personal situation. Hopefully it won’t be anything to complicated.”
“Well why don’t you tell me all about it.”
Neil sat across from and told her the issue, she took notes for about a half hour.

“Well I don’t think this will be an issue Neil, seems pretty cut and dry. Why don’t you let me get a draft ready and I’ll get back to by tomorrow.”
“That fast?”
“Sure.”
Nora stood as did Neil. She took his hand to shake it. Suddenly he pulled her body to his and kissed her. Nora was shocked. Neil push her body on to next to her desk. Nora pushed him off her hard.

Neil stumble away from her.

“What the HELL NEIL!”

“I just, Nora come on! You know I like you.”
“Yes, but I have never ever given you the impression I wanted more.”
“If you would let go of Bo Buchanan we could have something.”
Nora rolled her eyes.

“Neil it wouldn’t matter what my feeling for anyone was, I am not interested in you.”

“BullSHIT!”
Neil grabbed her hard, Nora tried to jerk away again, but his hands were holding her to tight..

“Stop Neil, just stop.”

She started to struggle, she was able to get one hand free and hit him hard. His head snapped back and he let go of her. All the sudden somebody tackled Neil, Nora screamed and jumped. She realized it was Bo, beating Neil’s face.

“When a woman says NO you let her go.”
Nora ran over to them.

“Bo stop.” Bo continued to hit him. “BO! YOU NEED TO STOP!”

Bo suddenly stopped, he looked at her his eyes filled with rage. He took several deep breaths he looked down at Neil who was nose was bleeding. Bo pushed him away and got up. He went to Nora and ran his hands down her arms.

“You okay?”
“Yes, he just surprised me.”
Neil was getting up, covering his nose.

“I’ll get your badge for this Buchanan! I’ll bring you both up on assault.”
Nora scoffed and shook her head. Bo laughed.

“Really, how are going to explain the reason we assaulted you was because I found you assaulting my wi.. Nora.”
Nora felt her breath catch, he almost called her his wife.

“It’s your word against mine.”
“Do you think people won’t believe me and Nora? Really?”
Neil looked between the two of them, obviously trying to figure out what to do.

“Neil, please leave my office and never come back. And if you try to get Bo fired or arrested I’ll turn you in for assault.”

Neil growled and left. Leaving Nora and Bo alone. Nora let a huge breath out.

“Thank you Bo. I never expected him to do that to me.”

Bo cupped her face making her look at him.

“Tell the truth, you okay?”
She smiled then kissed him.

“Yes, thanks to my knight.”

He laughed, then sighed. He pulled her close and hugged her tight.

“Bo, you are getting married on Saturday.”
“Please, I don’t want to talk about that. I just wanted to see you.”
Nora nodded and put her head on his shoulder and held him. After a few minutes he pulled back and kissed her cheek.

“I should go.”
Nora nodded. He walked out. Nora her heart aching she wanted to run after him, but knew she couldn’t. He was about to become someone else’s legally. She sighed and returned back to her work.
