Chapter 18

Nora waited for the pain, for the world to stop, but it didn’t. She lifted up her head slowly. She saw the man was dead and Blake was on the other side of his body.

Blake walked over to her and Bo.

“Are you hurt?”
She shook her head.

“But Bo is, he bleeding bad and having issues breathing.”
“Ok, I’ll get some medics.”
Blake leaned over to Bo.

“We got everything boss, the warehouse is clear.”
Then he ran out to get help for Bo. Nora felt Bo’s fingers on her face. She looked down, he was smiling. She looked down at him confused.

“Bo why are you smiling?”
“Because I have you in my arms again. I love you Red.”
Nora leaned down kissing him.

“We need to get you help.”
“I don’t think it’s bad, I think he just clipped me, it hurts.”
“But your breathing?”
“More from the pain, but I think more kisses from you would help with the pain.”
She smiled at him.

“Oh, well then let me help.”
She leaned down kissing him again. This kiss was slow and yearning. Bo’s hands wove into her hair and pulled her closer. Someone coughed, they separated. Blake was standing next to them with a few paramedics.

“Commissioner we need to look at you.”
“Of course, I don’t think it is too bad, just hurts.”
“We are going to take to hospital just to make sure.”
Bo nodded. The paramedics got him on the gurney.
“Red? You’ll meet at the hospital?”
“Yes, I’ll follow the ambulance.”
They closed the door Nora waved and headed towards her car. She was stopped by Blake.

“I’ll drive you.”
Nora hesitated, but agreed.

They started to drive.

“So you and Bo? You’re back together?”
Nora sighed.

“I don’t know.”
He nodded.

“So, where does that leave us.”
“Blake, I know I still love him so much. It wasn’t right or fair of me to bring you into this. I am sorry.”
Blake just looked at the road, neither of them talked for the rest of the way. Blake pulled up the hospital, Nora went to get out, but Blake stopped her.

“Can I get one last kiss?”
She hesitated, but leaned over. Blake kissed her, she realized she never felt a spark with him, she never got the jolt through her body she felt every time Bo touched her. She realized she was fooling herself this entire time. She backed away from Blake said her goodbye and got out of he car.

When she entered the ER it was chaos. Officers were all over, one approached her.

“He in that cubicle.”
“Thank you.”
She walked quickly and entered the cubicle. Bo was laying on the bed, no doctor or nurse was around.

“Hey.”
He smiled and reached for her. She took his hand and leaned down. Their lips meet, Nora felt lighting run through her body.

“What the doctor say?”
“I am fine, just a nick.”
“But there was so much blood.”
“It’s okay Red.” He moved his shirt over so she could see. She reached out and touched it. “It doesn’t even hurt anymore.”

Bo took her hand and kissed it.

“Red?”
She looked up into his eyes. She could see fear and hope in them.

“Red, can I come home tonight?”

She put her forehead on his.

“We have so much to talk about Bo, I have so much pain, anger, and doubt.”

He cupped her cheek.

“I know, but tonight can we just be husband and wife.”
She looked in his eyes so gentle and pleading.

“Ok, we’ll start with tonight.”
She felt him let a huge breath out. He put his hands around her face.

“I have missed you so much. I promise you Red, I will do whatever I have to make up for what I did.”
Their mouths meet in a gentle but passionate kiss, Nora backed away slightly.

“We can talk later Bo, right now I think I should find a doctor and see if we can get you out.”
“Great idea.”
She reluctantly left his side in search of his doctor. She could feel the weight of the last several months lifting up, she knew they had a long way to go, but there was light. She smiled, she was getting her life back.
