To Protect and Serve Chapter 13

Chapter 13
Bo was anxious to get out of the hospital, he was sick of laying in the hospital bed.  He still hadn’t gotten the all clear from the doctors. He heard a knock.
“Come in.”
He looked over, the door slowly opened. Then Nora carefully made her way in.
“RED! They let you out of you room.”
“Yep, this is my first trip.”
Bo smiled.
“I feel honored that you came to see me first.”
“Don’t feel so honored Buchanan, you’re the only person in the hospital that I know.”
Nora got next to his bed. Bo leaned over and kissed her.
“Well, I am still thrilled to see you.”
“Doctor give you the okay to get out of here yet?”
“No, still waiting.” Bo ran his hand through her hair. “Of course until you leave I’ll be here everyday to check on you.”
Nora smiled, taking his hand. Nora was about to speak when there was another knock.
“I guess I am popular today. Come in.”
Bo heard the person before he saw them.
“Sam hell boy, what are thinking getting shot and nearly dying.”
“Pa!”
Asa walked completely in the room followed by Clint.
“Hey Pa! Clint!”
Asa face got red with anger.
“How long have you been in here?”
“Almost a month, did they just tell you?”
“YES! What is wrong with them, you could have died.”
“Sorry Pa. I don’t control that.”
“Pa, you need to calm down.”
Asa didn’t seem to keen. Clint went over and hugged his brother. Asa stayed over to the side, still very angry.
“Well I should be out anytime now, waiting for the doctor to release me.”
“Good, we’ll take you home.”
Bo felt Nora squeeze his hand.
“Well, umm I am not coming home Pa.”
“What? They don’t expect you stay after this?”
“No! It’s something else. Pa, Clint, this is Nora Hanen, she was who I was protecting.”
Asa snapped his neck towards her.
“So you are the one who almost got my son killed.”
Both Clint and Bo yelled.
“PA!”
“She almost got killed too, we were both doing our jobs. She helped get some nasty people in jail.”
Nora spoke up.
“Mr. Buchanan I feel awful for what happened to Bo. He went above what he should have. But we were victims of some truly awful men. I will not apologize for going after them.”
Asa looked like he was going to explode.
Nora turned to Bo.
“I’ll leave you with your family.”
“ok, see you later.”
Bo leaned over and kissed her.
Nora wheeled herself out, Clint opened the door. Bo could hear him apologizing for Asa. After the door closed.
“You are sleeping with her, should have known. You always did love a damsel in distress. She ain’t no good Bo.”
“Pa, I lover her. Trust me when I say Nora is no damsel in distress. She is smart and capable. She has no problem standing up for herself.”
Asa growled, ready to continue when Clint spoke up.
“You know I think we should focus on Bo and his recovery. Don’t you Pa?”
Asa instantly calmed down.
“Right.”
Bo smiled at his brother.
“So what are going to do when they get out of here?”
“Nora offered to let me stay at her place, when she gets out we can recope together.”
“Recoup together? How is that going to work, you both are weak.”
“I was planning on hiring a nurse Pa.”
“What about your family boy! We’ve been worried about you for months and we find out you’ve been shot and now you aren’t coming home?”
“I’ll come home once I am strong enough. I plan on bringing Nora with me for the visit too.”
Asa and Clint looked at each other. Clint finally nodded then asked.
“Visit, does that mean you are moving here?”
“Yes, I want to be with Nora. I love her deeply. This past month was the best of my life, even with us always being on alert. She is so fun and smart, I can’t wait to be with her.”
Clint smiled, while Asa scowled.
“Fine, you want to move here and spend time with Jezebel I can’t stop you, but I plan on staying around till you can get around on your own!”
“Thank you Pa, I appreciate that.”
“Great, now where can I stay in this one horse town?”
Bo smiled and laughed.
“I hear the Palace is a great place to stay.”
“Fine, we’ll get a room, call us as soon as you know you are released!”
“I will.”
Asa left the room, leaving Clint and Bo alone.
“You’ve got it bad Bo.”
“I know, but she is amazing.”
“I am sure she is, she sure didn’t get scared by our father. That is a great sign.”
Bo laughed.
“No, it takes more than Asa Buchanan to scare her, I have a feeling those two will always butt heads, stubborn both of them.”
Clint and Bo heard Asa outside yelling for Clint.
“Better go, see you soon little brother.”
Bo waved as he left.
