To Protect and Serve Chapters 3 & 4

Chapter 3

Bo came home with Nora. She showed him around the house. It was nice a house. She let him settle in his room.
He unpacked and try to familiarize himself with the surroundings. Suddenly he heard a loud angry male voice. He ran down towards the voice.

“You have another man living with already? We just broke up!”

“Rob, this is none of your business, leave.”

“You were screwing him when we were together.”
“Rob, I have never cheated on you. You never trusted. I barely know this man. I’ve know him for 2 hours, he works for the FBI they assigned him to protect me.”
“You think I am so stupid. I know how women like you are. Smart, beautiful, career driven. You all like to use men, that how you prove you are strong.”
“Rob, I am not defending myself to you yet again. I don’t sleep around. Please leave.”
Bo walked in just as Rob grabbed her arm and pulled her to him.

“You are mine, you listen to me. Any man who even looks at you wrong is dead.”
“I think you need to let her go.”
Rob and Nora turned towards Bo. Rob let go of Nora.

“You must be the FBI agent.”

“Yes Bo Buchanan, I’ll be with her for 24 hours a day until the FBI deems I am no longer needed. I am not here to sleep with her.”
“Yeah, sure.”

Rob turned and left. Nora turned to him obviously pissed.
“Asshole, totally jealous and tried to control me, kicked him to the curb within two weeks, but he doesn’t seem to understand that.”
Bo looked at her. She gave him a forced smile.
“So, what do you do in these situations for food? Does the family feed you or do make food?”
“I have a food allowance.”
“Good, because I am an awful cook.”
Bo laughed.

“Do you have any suggestions for places to eat around here.”
“Depends, what you want?”
“Pizza?”
He saw her eyes light up.

“Sal’s! Oh, his pizza is the best! I call it in!”
Bo watched her get the phone and call in the pizza. She hung up phone.

“He’ll be here in 20. So, your room ok?”
“Good, I think we should start talking about the expectations and rules about our situation.”
Nora nodded, they both sat across from each other in the kitchen.

“So I will start with the most asked question, yes I am with you 24/7. No, that does not mean in the exact same room, but in general vicinity. When you are at work I will be in office no more than two rooms away. I would prefer to have a visual on you at all times, but that is not always possible.”
Nora nodded as he explain.

“What if I want to go out on a date or friends.”
“Then tell your date you have a guy joining and tell your friends to expect another person.”
Bo could see her annoyance growing.

“What if I want to bring the date back home?”
“Go ahead, but know I will be near by in this house too.”

“So basically any privacy and independence I have will be gone until this is over?”
“Yes.”
Bo could see her anger growing.

“Those bastards, I can’t wait to lock them up.”

“Have any of the tried anything yet? I just started to read the case file on them.”
“The son is creepy towards me, but no, none of them have tried to hurt me.”
“So what are your questions.”
Nora took a deep breath and sighed.
“Oh I don’t know, I understand why this is happening. I am just a little pissed it is happening. Do we just tell people you are FBI? Or do I make up something?”
“Tell them I am FBI, it will be better for both of us if they all know you are being protected.”

She shook her head.

“This is so ridiculous.”
“What about you? Don’t you have a personal life? I know you are widowed and have no children, but what about friends, brothers, sisters, mom, dad?”
“They all understand my job.”

The doorbell rang.
“That must be the pizza.”
She went to answer it. Bo could hear them talking.

“Hey Ms Hanen, I got you usual here.”
“Thanks Jimmy, keep the change.”
“Thanks, see you soon.”
Nora walked back in the the pizza.

“I take you get pizza often.”
“About twice a week. Let’s take this to the living room and watch some TV.”

“Oh, I will take my to my room, I need to finish reading all the case files.”
Nora nodded.

“I understand, well I guess I will see in the morning?”
“Yes. What time do you leave for work?”
“7, there are extra towels in the closet across from your room.”
“Thanks.”
Bo headed up stairs, he read the cases until he couldn’t keep his eyes opened. He turned off his lights and went to bed, think about the women just a few feet away and wondering how he could keep her safe.

Chapter 4

Bo woke up to unfamiliar settings with a slight confusion. Then he remembered where he was and why. He got up and started to get ready for the morning. He headed down towards the kitchen and found Nora drinking coffee. She didn’t say anything just pointed towards coffee pot. He chuckled to himself, she obviously not a morning person. He got his coffee and sat across from her. They sat in silence for a few minutes. Nora finally broke the silence.

“So what do you do all day while I work?”
“I will be in touch with my office several times getting updates, reading up on cases. Don’t worry I have plenty to do.”

Nora seemed satisfied with that answer and went back to drinking and eating in silence. Bo watched as she did. He was looking forward to getting to know her. She finished her drink and food.

“You ready?”
“Yes.”
They left together. She drove them to her office, she was still not talking. He followed her in.

“Bo, do you really need to follow me like this?”
“No, but I want to know your routine, so I will be for the next few days.”
She groaned and unlocked her office. Bo followed her in. She sat down and began to work. Bo observed her all day. He could tell she was getting very annoyed. On their way home Bo decided to be the one who broke the silence.

“You are very independent aren’t you.”
She rolled her eyes.

“Why do you say that?”
“Because you are ready to jump out of skin because I didn’t give you any space today.”
“I like my space and yes I am very independent.”
“Sorry that I am cramping your space.”
She sighed.

“It isn’t your fault. I am just going to apologize now for how much I am going to snap at you.”
Bo laughed.

“It’s ok, I completely understand.”

Nora smiled for the first time ever. Bo heart skipped a beat as she did, she was stunning when she smiled.  A few minutes later they pulled into her driveway.

“I have lots of work to do tonight, so you are on own for dinner.”
Bo nodded as they headed back in, he got his food and headed back to his room. He read more files for a few hours. He heard music from downstairs, he got up and investigated. As he got closer to the source he realized it was the Temptations. He walked into the livingroom finding Nora in the middle of the room wearing short silk pajamas singing and dancing with a file in her hand. He couldn’t help but smile. Nora turned and saw him. She screamed and dropped her file.

Bo laughed, he couldn’t help it. Nora recovered and picked up her file with a serious face, then went to the radio and turned it off.

“Oh please don’t turn it off for me, I love the Temptations.”

“What do you need?”
“Nothing, I just heard the music and decided to take a look. I need a break.”
“Oh. Well, umm, I think I should head to bed.”
Nora walked by him, Bo watched as she went upstairs. He enjoyed the view as she did. A minute later he went to his room. He smiled to himself as he got ready for bed. He was going to have a lot of fun with this case.
