To Protect and Serve

Chapter 1

The headquarters seemed to be buzzing more than normal as Bo walked in, but then again he had only been an FBI agent for 4 months, maybe this was normal for this time of year. His boss had called him from a surveillance team, he didn’t really mind the surveillance was extremely boring. He was hoping this meant he was going to be given a different case. He walked into his boss’s office and smiled at the receptionist.

“He is ready for you.”
“Oh, am I late?”
“No, his other meeting ended early.”
Bo nodded and headed in.  His boss was a large angry man, he reminded Bo of his father.

“Buchanan, sit”
Bo sat down.

“We have a new assignment for you.” His boss hands him the folder. Bo starts to open in it. “You will be on security detail for Nora Hanen, she is an ADA in a small town in Pennsylvania.”
“What she need protection for?”
“Her case involves some very shady people, people who have threatened her life several times.”
“Ok, but was is the FBI involved?”
“Because those shady people have been known to have international ties.”
“Ah, ok. I’ll read the file. Is there anything I should know that isn’t in here?”
“Actually, I am told she is exceptionally stubborn and wanted nothing to do with this. She needs protection. You have a flight to catch in 2 hours. Good luck.”

Bo stood and shook his boss’s hand.

“Thanks boss, I’ll make sure she stays safe.

 

Chapter 2
Bo headed back to his place to pack, more than likely this would be a long assignment. He ran to the airport to catch his flight.  As flight got in the air Bo opened the file. He was quite impress she was top of her class, just recently decided to get into DA world, she hardly looses cases. He leafed through, he found a picture of her with what he assumed was and ex-husband, very attractive couple. She seemed to shine even on a picture, he couldn’t imagine what her presence was like in person. At least he’d have nice scenery in this assignment. The file went more in depth of who he was up against. She was in danger, these people don’t mess around. The pilot announced they would be landing in 10 minutes. Bo put all his stuff away, ready to start his assignment.

As he got off the plane and into the airport he found a driver waiting for him.

“Agent Buchanan?”
“Yes.”
“I am Brad, I’ll take you to the station where you meet Ms. Hanen”
Bo nodded and followed him to his car.

“So Brad, are you a police officer here?”
“Yes sir, for 10 years now.”
“So you know Ms. Hanen?”
“Yes, very well. She is a wonderful person, I really hope you can keep her safe.”
“I will. Tell me, is there anything special I should know?”
“Well, she is stubborn. Oh man, the crap we went through when we told her that we were getting FBI protection.” Brad shook his head. “Stubborn, but smart and funny. Oh, you won’t be able to pull anything over on her, just so you know.”
Bo smiled, he liked the sound off this.
“Does she have a boyfriend? I see in the case she has an ex-husband and daughter who is attending law school in Chicago, but it didn’t say anything about a boyfriend.”
Brad made a face.

“She just broke up with a man name Rob, he was an ass who didn’t deserve her, but her ex-husband is a great guy, they are friends. In fact he is the DA.”
Bo raised an eyebrow., trying to process all the information he was given.

“Ah, here we are.”
Bo and Brad walked into the Llanview station together.

“Here, Nora’s office is over here. Good luck.”
Bo shook Brad’s hand.  He knocked on the door. He heard a faint summon. He opened the door. She was sitting at her desk reading a file. She looked up. Bo smiled.
“Can I help you?”
“My name is Bo Buchanan, I am an FBI agent. I have been assigned to protect you.”
Nora sighed.

“Of course you are, Agent Buchanan have a seat. I am going to upfront. I don’t want you here, it wasn’t my idea and it was done behind my back. But since you are here, I’ll deal with it. “
“That is fine. I hope you understand that this means I will be with you 24/7.”
“Great. Well, since that is the case, can you tell me personal things about yourself?”
“Within reason, sure.”
“How long you been an agent?”
“4 months.”
“Oh, so happy they got me an experience agent.”
“Well, I was a green beret back in the day.”
“What you do in between?”
“Little of everything, newspaper, radio, photography.”
Nora was looking at him questionably.

“How did you become an FBI agent?”
“Oh, an old buddy of mine that I served with called me and asked me if I’d like to do it. I accepted, so here I am.”
Nora nodded.

“You married?”
“No.”
“Divorced or widowed.”
“Widowed”
Nora nodded.

“Sorry.”
“It was a long time ago.”
“Children?”
“No.”
“Good, I’d hate to be the reason a widowed man was kept from his children.”
Bo laughed.

“No worries.”
“Can I ask where you are from?”
“Texas.”
“Ok, I am sure we’ll get to know each other as time goes by. Umm, this is my office. I probably spend most of my time here. I am about done for the day, then we’ll head home.”
“Great, I am going to walk around get to know the area.”
“Fine.”
Bo left her in her office. So far it seemed to go well, she seemed decent enough and very nice to look at. He might actually like this assignment.
