Drunken Catharsis Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Nora walked into the Palace, thankful to be out of work. She needed to decompress. Maybe Matthew would want to go out to Roadies tonight. She opened the door, she stopped. Bo was in the living area with Matthew. So much for decompression. She put on a smile for Matthew’s sake.

“Hey you two what is going on?”
“I made the A team mom!”
“Oh honey that is so great.”

She hugged him tight and kissed the top of his head. Matthew smiled up at her, excitement in his eyes.

“Can we all go out tonight and celebrate?”
Nora felt her heart sink, she had no desire to be with Bo at the moment. She looked at Bo, his eyes showed his dislike of her. But she smiled and looked at Matthew, she couldn’t say no to him.

“Of course honey, you choose.”
“I want Roadies!”
Nora smiled at her son, no matter what, Matthew was what really mattered.

Neither Bo or Nora talked to each other as they went out for the night. Matthew talked and they talked to him. Luckily Matthew didn’t seem to notice how tense his parents were around each other. He was too excited.  Half way into their dinner a friend of Matthew’s came into the restaurant, Matthew ran off to play a video game leaving the two of them alone.

Nora poked her food not daring to look at Bo.
“So is going to be like this from now on?”
Nora looked up at him astonished.

“Bo, I don’t know how to act around you.”
“Nora last night. It.”
“We were drunk Bo.”
“Yes we were, but.”
“But what? You wanted sex, you got it by telling me you loved me.”
Nora felt chill as his voice lowed to angry whisper.

“You really think I’d do that to you? After everything we have been through.”
Nora jaw clenched.

“I don’t know what else to think Bo. You have spent years telling me I wasn’t worthy of you, that you didn’t love me and that you’d never ever forgive me. So yes, that is what I have to think.”

Bo shook his head.

“Unbelievable. I just..Nora do you think I would be so cruel?”
She batted away the tears that were starting.”
“It isn’t like this the first time Bo.”
“WHAT?”
Nora saw other people turning towards them. Bo lowered his voice.

“Nora I have never done such a thing to you.”
“You told me more than once you forgave me for what happened with Sam, then you told me you lied. That was cruel Bo and very painful. You may have never told me you loved me just to get me into bed before last night, but you’ve been lonely and we were drunk. Your judgement was impaired as was mine.”

Nora could feel his eyes on her, she couldn’t look at him.

“Mom, Dad. I won the game!”
Nora took a deep breath and smiled as her son came running to them.
“That is great Matthew, you ready to head home?”
“Oh do we have to mom?”
“Sorry buddy, I am really tired.”
He sighed then nodded. All three of them got up and headed out. The tension even higher than it was before.
