Chapter 9
Nora watched her son play with other children. A woman came over and sit down by her.
“Are any of these children yours?”
“Yes the little brown hair boy over there is mine.”
“He is a handsome boy.”
Nora smiled.
“Yeah, he looks like his father.”
“Oh, with the look on you face, I’d say his father must be even more handsome.”
Nora blushed.
“Yes he was, but I haven’t seen him in many years.”
“Oh, sorry.”
Nora shrugged.
“Oh, I am Violet”
“Nora. How about you any of these children yours?”
“No, my husband wants kids, but I am not really a nurturing type.”
Nora nodded.
“I just like watching them play as I eat my lunch. I’ve never seen you, you from this area?”
“No, just moved. I got a job at Turner and Blackwell.”
“Oh are you a receptionist?”
“No, I am a lawyer.”
“OH! Wow, where did you move from?”
“Chicago.”
Violet gave her a strange look.
“What?”
“Nothing, just ummm trying to remember.”
Nora nodded.
“Your son? He looks to be about 8?”
“9”
Violet stood suddenly.
“I am sorry, I um I remembered I have meeting with my dietitian. It was nice to meet you Nora umm?”
“Hanen.”
“Hanen. Nora Hanen Chicago lawyer with a 9 year old son. I have to go bye.”
Nora watched confused as Violet ran.
“Weirdo.”
“Cody, honey we need to go back home!”
Cody came running to her.
“Mom I just made friends! That is Kevin and Joey that is their aunt Tina. They said they have a sister that is 9 too!”
Nora waved at them.
“That is great honey, but I have to get back to work.”
