Chapter 11

The next couple of days Bo was in and out of conscious. He had a stream of people coming in and out. Bo opened his eyes and saw Hank Gannon standing by his bed.

“Hank?”
Hank gave him a small smile.

“How you doing?”
“Ok, still lots of pain. I haven’t been able to see Nora, have you?”
He nodded slowly.

“Yeah, she is still really bad. Basically only family is allowed to see her. We are hopeful that since she has made it this long, that she’ll make it. My daughter has barely left the hospital in the past two weeks.”
“I am sorry, sorry I couldn’t protect.”
Hank shook her head.

“This wasn’t your fault, Wilson and Rob are dead.”
Bo shot his head up and immediately regretted it, the pain was awful. He took several deep breaths.

“When we found you and Nora we knew what had happened. An officer saw them on the Interstate, there was a chase that ended in gunfire, both were killed.”
“Can’t say I am sorry.”

“Me either, especially if it keeps Nora safe after she gets out. The other Wilson’s were all convicted. I put them away.”
“Good.”
Hank nodded.

“I better let you rest.”
“Wait Hank.”
Hank stopped.

“When you see Nora tell her, tell her that I love her.”
Hank didn’t seem surprised, he probably saw any tests on Nora and knew they had been together.

“I will. But you need to get better soon and tell her yourself.”

“I plan too.”
Hank left leaving Bo alone. He really wanted to see her. The doctor came back and did some basics checks.

“Do think I’ll be able to visit Nora soon?”
“Hopefully tomorrow, I want you levels to be a bit higher before I let you leave the bed.”
“Thanks doc.”
She left. Bo laid in his bed thinking of Nora. They had only known each other for a short amount of time, but he knew her better than himself. He knew what made her laugh and cry, he knew what pushed her buttons. He knew how beautiful she was when he made love to her. He knew he loved her. He knew he would be with her forever. He felt fatigue hit him him, soon he was asleep again.

Bo woke, he realized he has slept all day. The doctor showed up.

“Hey you’re up! Good news I just got back you tests results and you are going to be able to get out of this bed for a bit.”
Bo felt his heart leap.

“I can see Nora.”
The doctor nodded.

“Let me get a nurse and we’ll carefully get you out of the bed first.”
Bo smiled.

A few minutes later Bo and two nurses were working on getting him out of the bed and into a wheelchair. It was very painful, but Bo knew he needed to see Nora. They finally got him and secured.

“Ok Mr. Buchanan you ready?”
“Yes.”
They wheeled him down the ICU towards Nora’s room. As he approached he saw Hank with a young woman, that must be Rachel. They slowed as they approached. Hank saw him first.

“Hey buddy, they letting you out of your bed?”
Hank shook Bo’s hand.
“Yep, they are going to let me see Nora.”
“That is great, Bo this is Nora and mine’s daughter Rachel.”

Bo shook Rachel hand. She looked very tired he could see Nora’s features in her face.

“It is nice to finally meet you Rachel, your mother talked about you none stop.”
That made Rachel smile.

“Thank you for being with my mom when that happened.”
Bo nodded.
“I just wish I could have stopped it.” He looked towards her room. “How is she doing?”
“Better, she still hasn’t woke yet, but the doctor is feeling hopeful it will be any day.”

“I am going to go in, is that okay?”
“Yeah, I am sure she’d love to hear a different voice.”
The nurse wheeled him and left him with Nora. She looked so beautiful laying there, even with all the tubes hooked up to her.

“Hey Red. I hear you haven’t woke yet. I wish you would, I’d loved to see those big brown eyes and have you give me a hard time.”
Bo looked at her, there was not reaction.

“You still want to sleep? That is fine.”
He took her hand in his, then moved her hair out of her face.

“You know, I don’t think you heard my last words to you, but I said I probably loved you. Well I am going to take that back. I know I love you, I miss you, please come back to all of us.”

He sat there for a long time holding her hand. The nurse came in.

“Mr. Buchanan, the doctor wants you get back to your room.”
Bo nodded. He brought Nora’s hand to his lips and kissed it. He was about to let go, he felt a slight squeeze. He looked up at her face and he could see her eyes trying open.

“Nurse get the doctor! I think she is trying to wake up.”
Bo watched as her eyes finally opened. She looked confused then she saw him. Bo felt his smile grow.

“It’s ok Red, the doctor is coming, you need to stay calm ok?”
She nodded. The doctor come in a moment later.

“Hello Ms. Hanen, welcome back. Nurse can you get Mr. Buchanan back to his room? I’ll let you know how she is letter Bo, ok?”
“Ok. See you later Red.”
She gave him a little wave. Bo couldn’t stop smiling as they wheeled him out. Rachel came up very excited.

“Is she really awake?”

“Yes she is.”
Rachel hugged him.
“Thank you.”
“I didn’t do anything.”
“Yes you did, thank you.”
Rachel let him go and the nurse started to wheel him back to his room. He got back in the bed and sighed the fear he had been feeling since he first woke was slowly leaving his body. The doctor showed up an hour later.

“How she doing Doc?”
“She is doing well, she is awake and she knows what happened. I say she’ll be up and going in a few days and you mister should be able to leave in a couple of day.”
He smiled.

“Really, that will be great.”

“Get some rest.”
“I will”
She left. Bo sat back and fell asleep with a smile on his face.
