Chapter 17

Nora was released from the hospital with Caden. She was starting to get very worried about Bo. Nobody in the station had seen him since she had the baby. Not even Hank. She was scared.

Caden was sound asleep in his crib. Nora kissed his tiny head and headed into the living room. She paced, she didn’t know what she should do. Should she tell the police? What if it was already too late?

Someone was at her door. She ran over and looked through the peephole. It was Ana.

She opened the door.

“Hey Ana.”
“Hey Nora. I brought the a stuffed animal.”
Nora moved out the way so she could come in.

“He’s asleep, but you can go peak in.”
Ana  shook his head.

“No, don’t want to accidently wake him. You feeling better?”
“Yeah. Um listen when the last time you heard from Bo?”

“Not in a while.”

Nora tried to hide her disappointment and fear. A cry filled the room

Nora walked towards her son’s room. Her doorbell rung. She groaned.

“Can you get that while I get Caden.”
“No problem.”

Ana opened the door. Nora screamed as the person on the other side tackled Ana down. Nora ran towards the nursery, she needed to protect her son. She quickly locked the door behind her. She reached down and picked the baby up. She held him tight waiting for the attacker.

“Open the Nora.”
Nora’s heart stopped. She knew that voice. She held Caden closer.

“NORA OPEN THE DAMN DOOR BEFORE I KNOCK IT DOWN.”
Nora put Caden back in the crib and slowly walked over to the door and opened it.

On the other side was a man she tried to forget existed.

“Hello Jack.”
He smiled at her.

“Nora, last time I saw we were trying get you knocked up.”
He looked around her towards the crib.

“Looks like you didn’t need me.”
“What do you want.”
“Grab the kid, you’re coming with me.”
“Why?”
Jack pulled out a gun.
“Now.”
Nora swallowed and went to pick up Caden. She grabbed all the supplies. Caden was totally oblivious to what was going on. Nora walked back in the living room expecting to see a dead Ana, instead Ana was standing by the door waiting.

“What?”
“Oh, yeah. I’ve been working with Jack.”
Nora looked between them.
“Why?”
She smiled.

“Jack’s my dad!”

Nora was shocked. This whole thing was weird. What in the hell was going on.

“Move Nora.”
Nora walked out of the apartment, with Caden in his car seat asleep.
