Drunken Catharsis Chapter 13

Chapter 13
Nora padded to the door to her hotel suite. She and Bo had spent the night trying to explain the picture best they could. To say Matthew was confused was an understatement. He was excited at the idea of have his parents back together, but he didn’t understand the rest of it. She sighed, she hated that he got his hopes up. She held her breath as she opened the door. Her heart fell as the paper came in view. She could see the partial picture on the front page. Her and Bo semi dressed in a very inappropriate position, she quickly grabbed the paper and went inside She heard Bo walk out of the bathroom behind her.
“Well?”
She sighed handing the paper to him. He cursed then opened the paper.
“No comment has been made by the DA or Commissioner. One can only believe these two have had many nights just like for this since their divorce.”
Bo crumbled the paper. Nora tried to unclench her jaw.
“Bo the kids are going to be all over Matthew at school.”
“I know, but we can’t pull him out, it will make things worse for him and us.”
She shook her head.
“I can’t believe Clint would do this, not for us, but because of Matthew. I thought he loved our son.”
“He’s hurt and not thinking straight.”
“Yes, but he still had to know Bo!”
They both got quiet when Matthew opened his door, he was still very sleepy.
“Dad? Why are you here?”
“I stayed on the couch last night.”
Matthew just nodded and went to the kitchen and pour himself cereal. Nora looked at Bo who still had the paper in his hand. Their eyes meet, then looked over at Matthew. Nora nodded to Bo. He frowned but walked towards their son.
“Hey buddy, remember what we talked about last night?”
Matthew stopped mid chew and nodded.
“It is in the paper. Your friends will see the article and picture. I want it to be up to you. Do you want to read the article? Other students will probably bring it, and it won’t be nice.”
Matthew’s eyes darted to the paper. Nora could seeing him thinking it over, he looked just like Bo as he did. She had wonder why they ever thought he was Sam’s, he was such a mini Bo.
“Is any of the article true?”
“Some of it, but most of it is not.”
“Will you tell me what is true and what is not after I read it?”
Both Nora and Bo nodded. He put his hand out. Bo put the paper in Matthew’s hand. Matthew face screwed up when he saw the pictures. He looked at the two of them, then got off his chair and went to his room.
Nora was a bundle of nerves as he closed his door.
“Oh Bo, I hope we did the right thing.”
Bo walked over pulling her to him and kissed her gently.
“He made the choice Red, if he doesn’t read it now, the kids at school will tell him all sorts for lies.”
“I know, it just..I can’t believe we are going to discuss our sex life with our son.”
Bo laughed and shook his head.
“Well Rachel walked in on us, more than once.”
“Rachel wasn’t 10.”
“Still uncomfortable.”
“If this was us discussing sex with him, it would be uncomfortably necessary. Having discuss us having random drunken sex, while I was dating his uncle, because we got caught on tape is agonizing and unwarranted.”
Bo face turned angry.
“I am going to get Clint for this.”
Nora kissed him gently.
“Thank you.”
Bo smiled.
“For what?”
“For standing up against Clint, for being here for Matthew.”
“Nora I will always be here.”
She took his hands.
“I am starting to believe that.”
Bo’s smiled grew. They both turned when Matthew’s door opened.
Matthew quietly walked over to trash and threw the paper in it. He looked over at them.
“I can’t believe anybody would believe that story. It is disgusting.”
“I know honey. Do you want to ask us anything.”
“What in that story was true? If any of it is?”
Bo answered.
“Only that you mother and I were together when she and Uncle Clint were in a relationship.”
“Have you two.” Matthew’s face turned red. “Have you two been..you know. For a long time?”
“No. Sweetie that night was the first time you father and I have been together since our divorce.”
He nodded.
“Matthew? What else?”
“Did you really leave mom when she was pregnant with me?”
Nora cursed. She had forgot that one tiny line in the article. Bo looked down to the ground.
“Yes I did.”
Matthew jaw clenched.
“Sweetie, your dad was hurt by me, he thought Sam was you daddy.”
“So what? I know lots of kids who live with step fathers.”
“Matthew I have always regretted leaving like I did. Yes I was hurt, but I should have stayed in your life, even if you mother and I were over.”
“Did you love me before you knew I was your son?”
“Oh Matthew I loved you as soon as I found out your mom was pregnant and I never stopped loving you. That is why it hurt so much when I thought you weren’t mine. I thought it was better if you were with Sam.”
Matthew didn’t say anything.
“Matthew you know your dad and I love you more than anything.”
He nodded.
“I know this is hard, but we are together as a family now. That is what matters.”
“I know. I need to go to school.”
Nora looked at Bo.
“Okay, why don’t you get around. I’ll take you, we can talk more in the car. Man to Man.”
Matthew said nothing as he headed back to his room. Nora squeezed Bo’s hand. He looked at her.
“It will be okay Bo, he loves you.”
Bo kissed her cheek.
“I know, but can only imagine what he is feeling right now, has to be a shock.”
Matthew came back out with his school bag. Nora opened her arms, Matthew went to her, she held him tight and kissed the top of his head.
“Try to have a good day honey. It’s going to be hard.”
Matthew just nodded. Bo kissed her cheek.
“Come on bud, we need to go.”
Matthew let her go. She watched as they left together. She sat down on the couch. Her heart ached for her son. She could only pray he’d handle the day okay and that he could move past what he had learned.
