Chapter 27

Bo sat in the dark hospital room watching Nora sleep. It had only been 5 hours since he had become a father. He couldn’t sleep his adrenaline was still high. He stood up and walked over to Nora kissing her gently so not to wake her. Then he walked out of her room and towards nursery, a nurse saw him approaching.

“Hello Mr. Buchanan, shouldn’t you be sleeping?”
He smiled.

“I am too excited to sleep.”
“You want to hold your baby?”
“Yes.”
“Follow me.”

Bo followed her into the room and right to his son. She gently picked him up and gave him to Bo. She pointed over to the rocking chairs.

“You can sit with him over there.”
“Thank you.”
Bo slowly made his way to the chairs. He watched as his son squirmed trying to adjust to being in his father’s arms. Bo sat down and kissed his forehead.

“Hey buddy. Your mom’s sleeping, she is really tired after having you.”
Bo watched his little hands stretch.

“Wow, look at you.” Bo stroked his tiny cheek. “I hope you like your name. You mother insisted we use my name for your middle name, but I choose Caleb.”

Caleb yawned and opened his eyes slightly.

“You got you mom’s eyes don’t you, your mom wanted you to have my blue eyes. But I am happy you got hers, I love her big brown eyes.”

Bo looked up when the nurse came back in.

“Sorry Mr. Buchanan, but Ms. Hanen woke up and she was looking for you. You want to bring him down to her.”
Bo grinned and looked down at his son.

“I’d love to.”
Bo handed the nurse the baby, she put him back in the crib.

Bo followed her as they wheeled him down to Nora’s room. His smile grew when he saw her.

“Hey you two, you having a party without me?”
“Just some man to man talk.”
Bo picked up the baby after the nurse left and handed him to Nora.

“Oh Bo. He is so perfect.”
Bo sat next to her.

“Yes he is, he has your eyes.”
Nora smiled.

“That’s okay, because he looks just like you.”
Bo moved the blanket to the side to look at his son’s face again.

“You think?”
Nora nodded.

“Definitely. So how you feeling about being a dad?”
“Red I am so..I don’t even know how to describe this feeling. I frightened and happy and very excited. I couldn’t sleep, I just wanted to hold him.”
Nora kissed the baby.

“I know what you mean. Except for the sleep part, I was tired.”
Bo laughed.

“That is understandable, you just pushed a 7 pound baby out of your body.”

Nora sighed.

“Yes, I did and I am very happy with the result.”
“Me too.”

“Red, I am so happy right now, I just want you to know that, he may have been unexpected, but I am so happy we have him.”
Nora reached out and put his face in her hand pulling him to her for a kiss.

“I know Bo, I do. I am very happy too.”
